James H. Holmes, III Inducted as a Texas Legal Legend

James H. Holmes, III, “Blackie,” Partner with Burford & Ryburn, L.L.P., was inducted as a Texas Legal Legend by the Litigation Council of the State Bar of Texas at the 2012 Annual Meeting in Houston. The engraving on the award reads, “In honor and recognition of the qualities of which Legends are made and for his exemplary life as a lawyer.”

At the 2012 Annual Meeting, Mr. Holmes also presented a speech “Travel the High Road of Civility” which discussed the restoring of professionalism and the endeavor for civility in the legal practice.
Mr. Holmes has been a successful trial attorney since 1962. He co-authored the Texas Lawyer’s Creed, the “code of conduct” to inspire attorneys to adhere to the highest principles of civility and professionalism. Mr. Holmes has received numerous honors and awards, including the prestigious Lola Wright Foundation Award from the Texas Bar Foundation. The Lola Wright Foundation Award is given in recognition for outstanding public service in advancing and enhancing legal ethics in Texas.
